A League web application, built by people who run leagues for a living.

It's true!

League Lab was founded by some of the same people who run Underdog Sports Leagues in Seattle and Portland, and who are behind the online gear store Underdog Kickball. We've run hundreds of leagues, thousands of teams, and tens of thousands of games in the 8+ years of Underdog.

We couldn't have done it without our own custom built web application. Our website really is our business. The front end is our online presence and storefront, where we publish our leagues, take registration and payment, and post schedules, scores, standings, and awards for our players. The back end is where the work gets done. We create the leagues, process the payment, and our staff inputs scores and files reports.

In retrospect, a web application makes sense as the perfect place to run sports leagues and tournaments. But the tools that we count on now weren't the result of overnight inspiration. They were added piece by piece in response to the demands of running actual leagues, one day at a time. Some elements – online payment, database driven registration and schedules – were early, obvious additions and continue to be the foundation of the site. Others – like the TeamPayer feature that lets Captains make fee share requests via email – were created as innovative (we think) solutions to the challenges that our business presented. With League Lab, we had a chance to take everything we learned building the Underdog site, and start over from scratch to make the ideal league and tournament web application. It's a result of what we've learned as a league, combined with the best new technology and practices in web development.

Like the Underdog Kickball online store, League Lab also reflects our commitment to helping other organizations do what we do – run great leagues and tournaments in their area. This philosophy might seem strange in an industry where national organizations are constantly trying to add new cities, and some even make players say the pledge of allegiance before kickball games they sanction. That's just how we are, though. We know that for every 'big' league like Underdog, there are dozens of others, at every size, doing the same thing in their own way... and their players are having just as much fun as ours are. That's not competition, that's a business community. We think our product will resonate with that community.

So, we offer League Lab as a tool for like-minded organizations, whose goal is to provide a great experience for their participants. Whether you're running a company BBQ tournament, a non-profit fund raiser, or a full metro league with multiple sports, we hope League Lab can help you do it even better.
